I'm working on a new series. This time i am making coasters using photos.
I got the directions from a DIY site
http://www.cardstore.com/blog/diy-photo-coasters/
The difference is that I used alcohol inks for the background and color copies of my own artwork not photos. I made my copies at Staples on the color copier because inkjet prints will bleed.

Ok, I have been working in my studio on a few collages/paintings
Here is a glimpse of the process i use to make my art. First I collage the background using old text, pattern paper, found objects etc.
Then I brush a wash of paint over it. Next I start to fill in the details (not shown).
The final step is placing the collaged images (in this case it was seahorses) made from my hand painted paper, text, vintage music sheets etc. (4 photos)

Went to a very interesting program . It was about how to write an Artist's Statement.
It was presented at the Collective Art Tank in Asbury Park, here in NJ. It was presented by Eric Valosin. Here is the link to The Art Tank.

I may be returning for a second workshop if i am able to write a decent statement by next week.

The snow is melting and hopefully it will warm up so i can clean my studio and begin working again. My studio is a enclosed carport without heat, so needless to say, I cannot work out there during the very cold weather. Sure, i could get a space heater, but I am a bit concerned about a heater in a place with so much paper around. So I sketch in my books in hopes of elaborating on my sketches with paint once the thaw has begun.
Here is another for my "tree" series. One being a small sketch and the other is a work in progress

If you are looking for a good night out in a gallery, The Belmar Arts Council is having a Bloody Mary Sunday. All they ask for is a donation and you get 2 tickets for 2 drinks.
You also get to see the current shoe called "Whimsy"
Check it out on their web site:

I may or may not go depending on whether or not my friend is going.

What would you like to see as a motif or design on your Phone case, mouse pad ortablet?
I was thinking:

Just leave a comment and I will enter you into a give away for a set o

Happy New Year!
I did finally finish the Sandy Series. I will post next time.
We all try to think of New Year Resolutions but I prefer to think of them as goals. I do have 4 important goals for this year:
1. Keep up with this blog! Post at least two times a week ( I have neglected it for too long)
2. Attend one gallery or art related event each month. (Kind of like a date with my muse)
3. Continue my volunteer work for my local shelter
4. Submit work for publication
I think these are very reachable. Maybe I should include some loftier goals? hmmmmm
Over the past year I have also become a member of the Belmar Arts Council where I have had work in various group shows. As of yet I haven't sold anything but I have high hopes for the coming year.
I continue to submit work to Idiosyncrazies in point Pleasant. It is a wonderful shop/gallery that showcases many local artists. Sharon, the proprietor is a pleasure to work with.
Well that's all folks. I'll be back in a few days
